4" Silicon Wafer, Pattern 001
4" Silicon Wafer, Pattern 001
Wafer Details:
Chip Mfg: Unknown
Chip PN:Unknown
Est. Date of Mfg:Unknown
This 4” (100mm) silicon wafer has a beautiful green hue to it. The chip’s design on this wafer is largely symmetrical, and appears to be broken into four similar quadrants. There aren’t many markings on this chip, but the test K83J can be found in the center of the chip. Around the edge of the wafer are chips that are missing their upper layers, allowing for the structures underneath to be better viewed. There are also five test areas located around the wafer, with lots of interesting structures to look at.
Disclaimer:
Due to how these wafers were stored before I acquired them, all may have small scratches or other imperfections. None of the wafers are in perfect condition.
Displaying Silicon Wafers:
In addition to being wonderful specimens to view under a microscope, silicon wafers can make great display pieces. See “Note about handling Silicon Wafers” down below for more information about how to handle them if you are unsure.
If you choose to display your wafer, there are a few options you can take. One option is to install the wafer into a shadow box picture frame. Another option is to use a sturdy stand that would firmly hold the wafer in place, and prevent it from easily being knocked over.
Shipping:
All wafers have been washed by hand, dried, and placed into a plastic zip-lock bag. The bag is then taped to a piece of rigid foam board. The wafer/foam board is then wrapped in bubble wrap, and packaged into a box. If multiple wafers are ordered at the same time, wafers will be stacked on top of each other and taped to a single piece of rigid foam.
Note about handling Silicon Wafers:
Silicon wafers are very fragile and can break if not handled properly. Never try to flex or bend a silicon wafer, as it will shatter into very sharp pieces. In the unlikely event that the wafer has broken during shipment, if possible, do not remove it from the bag. Broken silicon wafers are extremely sharp and can easily cut you, not to mention the small shards that can become lodged into your skin if you touch them.
